Cowal Music Club is really excited to be hosting a special concert in Dunoon’s Burgh Hall at 2.30pm on Sunday, November 16th, when Scottish musical legend Gordon Cree and his famous mezzo-soprano wife Cheryl Forbes are set to perform a delightful and highly entertaining concert “filled with songs, music, and laughter”.
The couple are very well known across Scotland, with Gordon’s career as pianist, organist, arranger, composer, conductor and entertainer making him one of Scotland’s most versatile and acclaimed musicians. His abilities embrace music across the stylistic spectrum, including classical, jazz, traditional Scottish, and music theatre. His piano playing has featured on many commercially-released recordings, as well as on many soundtracks for TV, radio, and film, and he has worked with many entertainment stars, including Marilyn Horne, Moira Anderson, John Rutter, and Nicola Benedetti, as well as great entertainers such as Roy Hudd, Ken Dodd, and Anita Harris. He has also conducted numerous orchestras, often using his own arrangements, these including the BBC SSO, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Halle Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, and orchestras in Australia and New Zealand. He has very recently been chosen to join the small team of organists playing the mighty Wurlitzer organ at the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom, and in 2019 he was honoured with the Scottish Music Hall and Variety Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Additionally he is currently President of the Scottish Showbusiness Benevolent Fund, and a trustee of the Scottish Cinema Organ Trust.
His wife, Cheryl, is an outstandingly successful mezzo-soprano, often described as “one of Scotland’s most exciting and versatile singers”. She comes from Falkirk, and made her first stage appearance at the tender age of 8!
Having studied in Glasgow, London, and New York with the famous soprano Marilyn Horne and the legendary Metropolitan Opera coach, Frederic Camara, she is nowadays much in demand in the UK, and has sung many Principal roles in operas with Scottish Opera and Opera Bohemia. She has excelled in all genres of music, and has performed in oratorios with many of the UK’s major choral societies, as well as making guest appearances on stage in London’s West End.
With two such dazzling Scottish Artists/entertainers, Sunday’s Music Club audience is set to enjoy a thrilling afternoon in Dunoon’s Burgh Hall, when much of the programme will be highly entertaining and focussed on lighter music. All are welcome! Really not to be missed!
